  1. Right you are of course. Very strange, since it seems to have been published in an actual magazine as well. Anyway, here's a quick overview on wikipedia.
  2. I might be mistaken, but I think panned aux sends came in V9, so you might have to use a couple of busses to get it working. Most obviously, it's used for voice-overs where you want the background music level to be automatically lowered whenever the narrator speaks. Typically, there's a rather long release to gently fade the music up when the speaker stops, but allows for breathing pauses.In music production, it's quite common to use ducking to fit two sounds within the same frequency range. Most typically, consider a deep sub bass sound and a really deep electronic kick drum. To keep the kick from being drowned out by the bass, you can use a sidechain compressor to automatically lower the sub bass during (at least) the transient part of the kick. This let's the kick drum punch through the mix, while the listener still perceives the bass loud and clear. In this example, very fast compressor response time, is important to be able to shape the sound. Nope, it doesn't have separate key input ASFAIK.Cheers! -d
  3. I don't know how close you can get in actual filter characteristics, but both Fabfilter Volcano and Tone2 Filterbank2 have excellent envelopes. I think the former sound spectacular, and from demoing filterbank2, it seems very useful.
  4. Hey, that's neat! I swear, there's a nifty trick every day. It would be really cool if you could do the same with Aux, EQ, Dyn + friends. But especially Aux sends, since it's pretty convenient to be able to replicate send settings. Also, another idea: Since holding shift while dragging plugins rearranges them, perhaps it would be an idea to swap FX chains between tracks if you shift+drag the FX button. This way one can try out a new chain without losing the old one.
  5. There are several mouse modes in samplitude. The most powerful one, and a great friend, is the universal mode, which acts as a range selection or object selection depending on which vertical half of a track the mouse pointer is. It's very handy when you get a hang of it. Also, there are shortcuts to temporarily toggle range or object mode, by holding down '.' or ',' respectively. This can be quite useful as well. In short, in samplitude you'll be switching tools lot less than in cubase, because of these little nifty shortcuts. Cheers, -d
  6. In samplitude, you can only mute tracks or objects. There are no separare "mute ranges", but rather it's all done with objects. One option is to split the vocal take object around the selected range (Object->Split Objects) and then mute the newly created one (Objects->Mute Objects). However, it's alot easier and faster to rely on nondestructive editing and simply remove the section of your object you wish to silence. Just select a range and press backspace/del to delete the range and split the object. If you later want to fine-tune, simply adjust the edges of the resulting objects. Note, this is simpler and more exact than mute ranges, since it also lets you use crossfade settings to make smooth transitions. Hope this helps. -d
  7. You'll almost certainly save time by creating stereo files. Just use File->Export Audio->Mono/Stereo Convert->2 Mono->Stereo Wave to create interleaved stereo files. If you must retain the mono files as individual channels, the easiest way is to use two tracks and mix them into a bus.
  8. I've been demoing AAS Lounge Lizard, and really like it. Since it's modeled, t's really tweakable, and microtunable if you're into that - I am, so it fits me. It's not so gritty, but I'd rather use "external" plugs to tailor that anyway. I'm no rhodesofile though, so I can't say how close it is to a real one. It sure is easy to carry though.

  13. Yes, busses are simply called "Submix Bus" in samplitude. A difference from Cubendo, is that only Aux busses show up as sends. You can, however, change a channel's type at any time (Switching wether it's a bus, aux bus or regular track). To create a new bus, use Track->Insert New Track->New Submix Bus That should do it.
