Trouble with playback

I am very new to this and have read the instructions and help files inside

out - but to know avail. I have the samplitude version 2496 v. 6.02 that I

am trying to use with Windows XP that I use with an external M-Audio Transit

USB sound card. The recording part seems to work alright. However when I go

to play back, I get the error message thet reads: 'Cannot open waveform

output device: M-Audio Transit USB'! Reason: The specified format is not

supported or cannot be

translated. Use the capabilities to determine the supportive formats.'

I get the same error message when I try playback with the computer's

soundcard yamaha ac-xg wdm audio. The only time I can play the

file is as a wave file from the i-tunes program. If I try and open the hdp

file, then the samplitude screen opens up and I get the same above

problem. Also it also records a HO file for which I have no program to open.

Is there any reason a single file is recorded three

times?
